Greece: Asylum suspension, arrests and detention centers to stop the invasion from North Africa – “Stay where you are, we will not accept you”
According to the Minister of Immigration , faced with what he describes as an "invasion" from North Africa , several immediate measures will be taken:
- Suspension of the examination of asylum applications ;
- Systematic arrest and detention of migrants ;
- Creation of a detention center on the island of Crete ;
- Blocking the sea passage to prevent crossings .
The official message is clear: "Stay where you are, we will not accept you." A legislative amendment will be presented tomorrow to the Greek Parliament to ratify these measures.
